The Service

The Angus Mental Health Peer Support service provides peer support around mental health and well-being. The service is available to adults and young people from the age of eleven (who attend high school) and are registered to a GP practice in North Angus. The service provides a maximum of three sessions and is aimed at those with less complex need.

Peer support is defined as the help and support that people with lived experience of poor mental health and well-being can provide for others facing similar challenges. The Peer Support Workers are based in GP practices across North Angus (Forfar, Kirriemuir, Edzell, Brechin and Montrose).

As part of Angus tiered approach to mental health services, the peer support service is at level one providing information, advice, access to self-help and self-management strategies and signposting.


The Role

As a Peer Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one support and work as part of an integrated team within the surgeries; providing timely access to information, advice, guidance, tools and self-management strategies to those referred to the service
  • Record patient information accurately and timely on to an IT system


You Will

  • Have personal experience of mental health and well-being challenges
  • Have experience of supporting people with mental health challenges
  • Show good communication skills
  • Have basic IT skills and have an understanding of Microsoft Office packages
  • Have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle to drive for work purposes
